Dutchess Chamber of Commerce Speaks Out

Robin Seidman | October 3, 2025

The Protect Our Power Coalition is a united front of businesses, labor unions, and community leaders working to protect Hudson Valley families, jobs, and communities from Albany's proposed takeover of Central Hudson.

This proposal would:

  • Raise taxes and utility bills for hardworking families
  • Threaten good-paying union jobs
  • Eliminate more than $60 million in annual local tax revenue that funds schools, road repairs, and emergency services
  • Cost billions of dollars, an expense that would fall directly to customers
  • Create instability in our energy system, threatening reliability during storms and peak demand.

As Todd Diorio, President of the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council, recently wrote:

"Replacing a private utility with a government-run operation may sound appealing to some on paper. But in practice, it means less local investment, fewer skilled jobs, and a major loss of accountability. We can't afford to gamble our energy future on a plan that fails to add up."

The truth is clear: a rushed government takeover won't make energy more affordable. It will cost billions, put jobs at risk, and leave our communities with fewer resources and less reliable power.

Together, we are working to protect our communities, jobs, and reliable, affordable energy for the Hudson Valley.
